As you are aware, information extraction (IE) from textual data presents a complex challenge, requiring customized approaches that cater to specific data types and target information.

In this study, my co-authors and I reviewed the most recent strategies for extracting information from textual data, as well as their advantages and limitations. We used a systematic mapping technique to summarize works published between 2017 and 2022, covering the fundamental concepts, recent approaches, applications, trends, challenges, and future research prospects in this subject area.

Our research analysis, based on 161 selected studies, revealed that state-of-the-art models primarily leverage deep learning to extract information from textual data. By providing a holistic perspective of this domain, our study aims to guide novice and experienced researchers in their future research and serve as a foundational resource for this research area.

I would also like to express my gratitude to Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS for providing research facilities and funding, which made this study possible. I hope this study proves valuable to anyone interested in IE from textual data. We welcome any questions or feedback you may have.

Aku terdiam..

“Ramai orang susah datang berjumpa saya, mereka bertanya apa rahsia saya? Solat 5 waktu, duha jangan tinggal, bangun tahajud malam. Minta sungguh-sungguh. Pekerja saya, bila azan bergema, saya arahkan tinggalkan kerja ‘sekarang’. Tiada nilai 1 sen pun jika buat kerja waktu tu! Allah panggil kita menghadap dia. Tapi kadang kala kita cakap, “Tunggu jap aku nak siapkan lagi 1 lagi!”

Jika kita ukur panjangnya pun dah tak muat masuk kubur”.

Satu lagi pesan saya.

“Kau sahabat aku. Kenapa kau tak tegur aku dulu ? Kau memang sengaja nak aku ke neraka kan ? Kau sengaja nak bahagia masuk syurga sendirian kan ? Aku kurang ilmu agama. Tapi kau tinggi ilmu agama. Mana ajaran agama kau tu ? Kenapa kau tak guna untuk bantu aku ? Kau tunggulah di akhirat kelak. Aku akan tarik kau masuk neraka sebab kau tak tegur aku.” AllahuAkhbar. Sahabat. Begini lah cara aku menegur mu. Dengan post kecil ini. Hari ini. Sekurang - kurangnya. Bila aku di soal Nya di akhirat nanti. Tentang apa yang aku lakukan untuk sahabatku. Aku boleh jawab bahawa. “Aku telah menegur mereka. Dengan post kecil ku ini. Dan dengan selemah-lemah iman ku. Iaitu mendoakan mereka dari jauh.

“Aamiin. Several similar events and pieces of knowledge are stored in a similar, but specific, location in the brain.

Connectivity among several adjacent neurons triggers memories or “senses” to be processed and understood.

Hence, to sum it up, the brain works like this (a romantic story):

Our sensory organs receive stimuli from our surroundings. For example, you’re looking at a beautiful young lady in a decent blue dress.

That “knowledge” is sent to your brain by a connective neuron tissue called the spinal cord (which is located in the middle of your backbone).

The received knowledge of the event is then processed by the brain. One part of the brain learns that it is a beautiful lady in a decent blue dress that you are looking at. Another part might try to retrieve your previous similar memory, if it exists.

…then you go back home and go to sleep…

The next morning, you come across a beautiful friend of yours, and that reminds you of the young lady you saw yesterday — but you can’t exactly recall her face. Why does this happen? The same part of the brain that processed the image of the lady is reactivated when you see a similar image (your beautiful friend). Your brain is capable of reconstructing the memory, but not reproducing the exact image.

By using memory reconstruction, the brain not only saves space but also gains the ability to predict or project future events. Nearby connected neurons will be activated in such cases.

Currently, I am working in spiking neural networks — the third generation of neural networks — which are designed to behave and process information the way a human brain does.
